There are three membership categories in the League: Provisional, Active, and Sustaining.
Provisional Membersare members-in-training who complete a training course on the Junior League of Long Island structure and organization, the community organization we service and our fundraising work. They pay dues, attend General Membership meetings as determined by the Membership/Provisional committee, complete a community project and support fundraisers. They are not permitted to vote or hold office.
Active Membershave completed the Provisional requirements and have assumed a volunteer commitment. They pay annual dues, attend monthly General membership meetings, serve a placement on a fundraiser, community project, or administrative committee, and have time and financial obligations to each League fundraiser. In addition, Actives may vote, hold office, and propose new members.
Sustaining Membersare those who have seven years of active service. They pay annual dues and do not have placement or fundraising obligations. However, many Sustainers continue to support the League through their diverse community involvement, by holding advisory positions on League committees, and by voluntarily supporting our fundraisers. Sustainers have all the privileges of membership, including proposing new members. Additionally, Sustainers have their own officers and social functions.
