Roslyn, N.Y. – June 21, 2010, The Junior League of Long Island (www.jlli.org), a nonprofit organization of women volunteers, today announced that Shelley Wojtkiewicz has been appointed President for the upcoming year.  The office of the Junior League President is an annual appointment by the JLLI Board of Directors.

As Junior League President, Ms. Wojtkiewicz will be responsible for directing volunteer activities and community projects such as Kids in the Kitchen, Project Playground, Compute the Future and First Step.  The Junior League of Long Island strives to be the organization of choice for voluntarism and community partnerships to help improve the health and well-being of women and children on Long Island.   As one of her first acts as President, Ms. Wojtkiewicz will be spearheading a Community Impact Breakfast on July 22 to research health and well-being issues facing local women and children and potential projects the Junior League can undertake to address them.

Ms. Wojtkiewicz is a Marketing Manager at Quantronix Corporation in East Setauket and has been a Junior League member since 2005 after moving to Long Island from Shreveport, Louisiana.

“I am so proud of our organization, our history and what we have accomplished across Long Island.  It is an honor to direct this incredible organization and work with such terrific, talented and dedicated women.  To be able to play an important role in guiding the Junior League into the future is so exciting,” said Ms. Wojtkiewicz.  “The Junior League is an excellent way to meet people with similar interests while making a difference in the community.”

The JLLI Board also announced that Georgia Gier, a high school science teacher at the W. T. Clarke High School in the East Meadow School District, has been appointed as President-Elect.  Ms Gier is also a volunteer with The Climate Project headed by former Vice President Al Gore.
