Alicia Aguilera Sunshine Room

In Remembrance of Our Sunshine Alicia

With extremely heavy hearts, the Board of Directors of the Junior League of Long Island regrets to announce the passing of our fellow Board member, Alicia Aguilera, on March 26th, 2021.

Alicia was the true embodiment of the mission of The League, through her countless hours of volunteerism, and deep rooted passion to give back to her community. During her 14 years with the League, Alicia held numerous positions including Membership Development Co-Chair, Done In A Day Chair, First Step Co-Chair and Projects & Research Director. She led projects such as Thanksgiving baskets, brunch for Ronald McDonald House, Kids in the Kitchen, as well as the Halloween Party, and the International Day of the Girl event hosted at the Yes, We Can Community Center.

Alicia was the Associate Director at North Shore Day School where she worked for over twenty years. Alicia had an extraordinary way with children and it was evident by the way they flocked towards her at any event. She was most proud of her nieces and nephews, Peyton, Dylan, Brian, Olivia, Mia and Ramon. She will always be looking after them.

With over $26,000 raised through the generosity    of Alicia’s family and friends we are able to honor Alicia with the creation of the Sunshine. The Sunshine Room was dedicated in Alicia’s Honor on September 29th, 2022, an event and undertaking that was successfully executed by Past President’s Stephanie Kearns and Donna Fiore. The sunshine room encompasses everything Alicia would want for others: a place  for families to father, where children can have fun, and where laughs can be shared. To honor Alicia the Junior League of Long Island will continue to participate in Meals from the Heart at Ronald McDonald House to keep spreading her sunshine to all!
